The last couple evenings have been spent outside. My little monster will nap around 2, get up around 5, I'll finish cooking dinner and then we go outside and wait for Daddy to come home. During that time, I know my son will come in filthy. And I'm ok with that :) This is something that I want to remember, his innocence. Thinking a backyard full of dirt, dry grass, chickens and a garden bed is a pretty cool place to be. He has so much fun playing in the dirt. Throwing dirt into the bushes, tossing rocks around. Sqwaking at the chickens, and running laps around the back yard with Beau. Have you met Beau?
He could possibly be the worlds best dog. He has his quarks... like he thinks he owns the car, he sheds like crazy, doesn't listen to my husband and he would rather drink out of the toilet then his water bucket... BUT he is so so so good to Zay. Zay can be an feisty little thing, and Beau puts up with it, often times with a big ol grin on his face.
The last three years we have had a garden. When we bought this house (in June) we were stoked because the back yard was HUGE... a 1/2 acre! My hubby had/has big plans :) A big garden was one of them. Our winter crop will be small, and eventually we will add garden beds. To start us off, we will have cabbage, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, onion, and kale. I can't wait for them to be ready! There is nothing better then fresh vegetables. ESPECIALLY if you know where they come from!
Nothing like a proud little farmer, showing off his bed ;)
My son LOVES mickey mouse. When my mother in law saw these, she knew that they would be a perfect addition to our yard. Solar lights! They are pretty awesome.
This is NOT his "do you want to fight" stance... it's him showing me his muscles!! This boy has grown an inch and a half in the last two months. He will eat me out of house and home by the time he is a teenager! I'm convinced that I will have to special order his shoes online once he hits 10 because he will have such big feet! ;)
These are our chickens, they are in the their teenage years... I'm ready for them to start paying rent! We have 12 total, and they sure eat a lot. I'm getting pretty excited for them to start laying eggs. Zay LOVES to go out there and feed them blackberries from the overgrown bushes in the yard, or to bring them their "treats"... which are the parts of veggies or fruits that we don't eat.
Eventually we want to have a bunch of garden beds, with crops year round. With that mind set, we decided to learn how to can. We made our first batch of salsa and it turned out great! My to do list consists of Applesauce, spaghetti sauce, ketchup, and broth. Do you have any favorite canning recipes? I would LOVE to know them! Please share in the comment section below!
My hubby's family came up for a weekend, and we went in on a bunch of tuna fish caught by a local fisherman. Have you ever had canned tuna?! It's the best. You won't go back to store bought. That stuff can be compared to cat food in my opinion! Wherever you do it, that area will STINK for weeks. Just be prepared for that...LOL.
